Jazz Band

Mrs. Foster said, "The 8th grade jazz band traveled to Newberry College on Saturday for the South Carolina Band Director’s Association Jazz Festival.  I’m so happy to share that they received an excellent rating at the festival.  MJ Cloud was also named best soloist!  Please congratulate these very talented students when you see them."
Celebrating Cyclones
  • Congratulations to the CMS Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Giles, and the Support Staff Member of the Year, Mrs. Caldwell!!
  • Yay, Cyclones!  We sent $303.97 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through our participation in the Pennies for Patients campaign.
  • Congratulations to 8th grade wrestler Chris Hinton who placed 2nd at the State Qualifier in Fort Mill, which then qualified him for the South Carolina Middle School State Championship. Chris also placed 1st in the Wateree River Conference tournament with an undefeated record and was placed on the Wateree River All-Conference Team.
  • Congratulations to the three 8th graders at Chester Middle School who earned a spot in the Region 3 Honor Band.  William Counterman on baritone, Marcello Hill on clarinet, and Jasmine Moyd on clarinet will participate in the South Carolina Band Director’s Association Region 3 Honor Band Clinic in February at Nation Ford High School.  Hooray!
  • Students were recognized during a ceremony in the auditorium on January 23rd.  Perfect Attendance for the second quarter was earned by 174 students.  Thirty-one students earned straight A's and 119 students earned all A's and B's during the second quarter.  Congratulations, Cyclones!
Research, Reports, and Dolls?
Students in sixth grade ELA classes researched a famous person using DISCUS and library books, then typed their research papers which included at least two different sources and a bibliography.  After they had done their research, they were each given a pattern and guidelines to create a doll that resembled the person they learned about.  And the results have been amazing! The papers were great and the dolls have been so creative and unique!  Ask about pictures or go by and see the papers and dolls.

More pictures are located on the CMS FaceBook page.

From the Desk of the Principal

Seasons' Greetings, to my CMS Family.  It is hard to believe--we are already half-way into the second nine weeks, and the first semester is rapidly coming to an end.  We are still excited about the opportunity to work with the children and families of the Chester Community.  Please know that our students are our number one priority, and it is our goal to make sure that your child is successful.  In order for this to happen, there must be a constant line of communication between the school and the home.  All teachers provide extra help sessions, and we strongly encourage your child to attend as regularly as needed.

We also encourage parents to stay abreast of their child's grades through the Parent Portal feature of the PowerSchool webpage.  If you have not already received your unique password and login, please come by the school so that we may assist you in this effort.  We take pride in our responsiveness to your needs, and we hope that we will continue to work for the benefit of all children.  Thank you for all you do for Chester Middle School.  "Whatever It Takes.  Every Child, Every Day. No Excuses!"

Parent Portal
Parents...Want to keep up with your child's grades?  It's very easy.  Just sign-in to your account on Parent Portal!! Letters with information about setting up your personal account for your child were sent home at the beginning of the school year.  Teachers are asked to update grades at least once a week, but many update them more often.  You can keep up with your child's average grade in each class or learn of any missing work.  Parent Portal can be accessed by clicking here.  If you have any problems accessing Parent Portal or need information about obtaining your information, contact the school office.
School Supplies
Need a few supplies? No need to make a special trip to WalMart. The Student Council has opened a School Supplies Store in the cafeteria area near the auditorium. Every item is 50 cents or less. It is open Monday through Friday mornings from 7:15 until 7:40. Some of the items being sold are pencils, mechanical pencils, lead, erasers, and notebook paper. Any profit that is made will be donated to a yet undetermined charity.
