We Can't Wait to See YOU!

From the Desk of the Principal

As the new principal of Chester Middle School, I am pleased to welcome our incoming 6th grade students and parents, as well as, welcome back our 7th and 8th grade CMS students and families.  I am very excited to be working with each and every one of you and looking forward to our new, revised, and tweaked initiatives this year.  Some of our staff members have been here this summer working hard on our office, hall and bathroom transformations and I think you all are going to love them.  It is our goal to make CMS the most inviting and comfortable learning space possible and become your home away from home.  I know this transformation will give you all a sense of pride in your school and you all will help us maintain this huge undertaking the staff members worked on for you.

As we prepare to start another school year, I would like to start by thanking you for choosing Chester Middle School.  We had a number of successes last year to include receiving the Palmetto Silver Award for closing the achieving gap, reducing our discipline referrals by 20% the first semester after instituting our Positive Behavior Incentive System, and decreasing our expulsion rate by 74% last year as compared to the year prior.  We have done well and only plan to get even better!

Our motto at Chester Middle School has changed to “Where learning comes to life.”  We plan to do this by instituting STEAM infused lessons with cross-curricular connections and focus on Project Based Learning.  We will continue to “Keep it R.E.A.L.” (Be Respectful; Strive for Excellence; Work to Achieve, and Lead by Example), our House program and Advisor/Advisee program.  In addition, we will continue to integrate technology through our one-to-one program and keep literacy as a focus across the curriculum.

Parents it is my core belief that in order for our students to be successful, “it will take the entire village” and students, parents, faculty, the staff, and the community (all stakeholders) must work together to accomplish this goal.  I want you to know that our primary focus is to teach and to provide support for you and your child.  All of our teachers have weekly extra help sessions, and students in need of support are strongly encouraged to attend.  Parents, if at any time you have any questions or concerns about your child's performance, please feel free to contact your child's teacher(s) and/or administrator(s) as needed.  If we work as a team, then we will all succeed.  Thank you for your commitment to your child and our school.
