From the Desk of the Principal

I am pleased to welcome all CMS families to the 2017-2018 school year! We had so many successes last year to include the launch of our STEAM initiative. The STEAM initiative allowed us to live our motto, “where learning comes to life” engaging students in a number of hands-on problem based lessons. In addition, several extra-curricular activities were spearheaded to include the robotics club, drone club, mock trial club, and the recycling club.
As we discussed at the summer reading launch, this year we will also institute paradigm shifts as we build leaders of today and tomorrow with Leader in Me. Our vision for this school year is STEAM: Lead: Succeed. This vision will cultivate our students into critical thinkers who can collaborate, communicate, and create, placing them on a path to become self-directed individuals with a great work-ethic, perseverance, integrity, a global perspective and interpersonal skills, ultimately becoming college and career ready.
We have instituted a three day per week advisory period (students will continue the 7 habits) and will end the week with Response to Intervention for students who need extra help and BLAST for students that qualify for enrichment. Our House program has been expanded and now each team is its own House, building community within each team, meeting the last week of each month.
I am so excited to work with our young people this year as I enter my fourteenth year in education, and I definitely lead through the lens of a mom (I’m a mother of two) ensuring the highest quality education for all of students. Looking forward to a phenomenal year.

Mrs. Houston
